Additional Information

All information submitted is confidential.

The Heschel School subscribes to the principles of Fair Practice for the Administration of Financial Aid as outlined by NAIS (National Association of independent Schools). The goal of admitting a diverse population of highly qualified students implies a commitment to substantial financial aid. Aid is awarded without regard to race, nationality or ethnic origin.

Financial aid funding comes from the generosity of donors to our Annual Fund and through various fundraising activities, including the Annual Campaign and Benefit Dinner.

FAQ’S

  • Visit Clarity to complete the financial aid application by December 16, 2024. (Note: Returning families' applications are due by December 2, 2024.)

Clarity will locate and import your most recent tax returns.

  • Heschel uses Clarity to help determine what a family is capable of contributing toward tuition. Families complete the Clarity application form online. The application form is then forwarded to the Heschel School and provides the school with a general recommendation on a family’s ability to pay for education. The Financial Aid Committee uses the assessment as a guide in allocating financial aid awards. Other factors are also used when determining the financial need of a family. such as the number of children in tuition-charging schools, all sources of income, savings, investments, and assets.

  • If a student is offered a place at Heschel, their family will receive information about financial assistance for which they are eligible, along with their letter of acceptance and their enrollment contract or re-enrollment contract.

  • The Heschel School requires families receiving aid to re-apply each year. Understanding that it is the family’s obligation to make sure all accounts with the Business Office are current, if a family is in arrears and has not made special arrangements with the business office, the Financial Aid Committee may not allocate aid for the following year. If your financial status changes, you may be awarded more or less aid in any given year.

  • Requests for financial aid often exceed the funds available, so it is important to apply as early as possible. The deadline for submitting your financial aid application for the 2025-26 academic year is December 16, 2024 for new families and December 2, 2024 for returning families, and funds are allocated first to current families who meet the deadlines and have demonstrated need.

  • Families are asked to apply for financial aid by the December 16, 2024 deadline. If you did not apply for financial aid during the admission year that your child was admitted to the Heschel School, you will not be awarded aid. The only time an exception may be made is in the event of a significant change in our circumstances, such as the loss of a job, death of a parent, or an illness which prevents a parent from earning income.

  • The Heschel School expects that separated or divorced parents will contribute to the cost of their children’s education, regardless of whether or not there is legal obligation for them to do so. In the cases of divorce or separation, the Heschel School requires information from both natural parents and stepparents. We can appreciate that these are difficult times for families, but we require that each parent complete and submit a Clarity application. While the financial aid committee will consider the assets of both natural parents and stepparents in determining an award, we take into consideration the other obligations of that stepparent.

  • All of our Financial Aid is allocated based on need. Thus, there is no automatic discount for any student's tuition. However, in 2016, as part of our efforts to address the affordability of a Heschel education, we created a needs-based program to assist some families with three or more children with part of the tuition of their third (or subsequent) child/children. To apply for this assistance, please use this form.
